State wide figures
- The number of criminal incidents recorded by Victoria Police in the year to 31 December 2023 was 385,782, up 10.6% from 348,670 incidents recorded in the same period last year.
- The number of offences recorded by Victoria Police in the year 31 December 2023 was 523,523. This is up 8.4% from 483,172 offences recorded in the same period last year.
- Alleged offender incidents increased 11.6% to 170,179 in the year to 31 December 2023, up from 152,470.
- Victim reports increased in the year to 31 December 2023, up 13.7% (37,034) to 307,445 victim reports.
- Family incidents increased in the year to 31 December 2023, up 2.0% from 92,285 to 94,170.
- Alleged offender incidents with an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander status increased 26.1% (3,680) to 17,789 in the year to 31 December 2023.
- In the year to 31 December 2023 the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander status of those involved in Family incident increased for Affected family members (up 7.0% to 5,687) while Other parties increased (up 7.1% to 6,798).

The highest criminal incident rates in Local Government Areas in the year ending 31 December 2023 were:
- Melbourne (15,451.8 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 0.1%)
- Latrobe (11,063.7 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 10.5%)
- Mildura (10,514.8 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 15.2%)
- Yarra (10,406.9 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 6.0%)
- Port Phillip (8,869.3 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 3.1%).
Recorded Offences
The highest recorded offence rates in Local Government Areas in the year ending 31 December 2023 were:
- Melbourne (21,405.7 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 0.9%)
- Latrobe (15,187.3 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 5.5%)
- Mildura (14,036.6 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 9.0%).
- Horsham (13,531.7 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 15.3%)
- Yarra (13,072.3 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 6.0%).
